Paint Correction
Your Paint Isn't Fading. It's Buried Under Years of Damage.
Swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and water spots hide the finish your vehicle was born with. Paint correction brings it back.
What Paint Correction Actually Is
Paint correction is the process of permanently removing defects from your vehicle's clear coat through machine polishing. It's not a wax, it's not a sealant, and it's not a cover-up. It's the controlled removal of a microscopic layer of clear coat to level out the surface and eliminate imperfections.
Every time your vehicle goes through a drive-through car wash, gets wiped down with a dirty rag, or sits in a parking lot collecting hard water deposits, your clear coat picks up damage. Over months and years, those individual scratches accumulate into a haze of swirl marks that make your paint look dull, flat, and older than it is.
South Dakota accelerates this damage. Gravel roads pepper your paint with micro-impacts. Road salt leaves mineral deposits that etch into clear coat. The summer sun bakes contaminants into the surface. And oxidation slowly turns vibrant paint chalky and lifeless.
Paint correction reverses all of that. The result is depth, clarity, and gloss that looks better than the day your vehicle left the factory.
Swirl Mark Removal
Those spider-web patterns visible in direct sunlight? Gone. We eliminate swirl marks caused by improper washing and automated car washes.
Scratch Removal
Light to moderate clear coat scratches are leveled and polished out, restoring a smooth, uniform surface.
Oxidation Restoration
Sun-baked, chalky paint is cut back to reveal the vibrant color hiding underneath. Especially critical for red, black, and dark-colored vehicles.
Water Spot & Etching Removal
Hard water deposits and bird droppings that have etched into your clear coat are polished smooth.
Resale Value Boost
Nothing makes a bigger visual impact on a buyer than paint that looks deep, wet, and flawless. Paint correction delivers that.
The Paint Correction Process
Multi-step, meticulous, and tailored to your vehicle's specific condition.
Wash & Decontaminate
A thorough wash followed by clay bar treatment to remove bonded surface contaminants. The paint must be perfectly clean before polishing begins.
Paint Inspection
Under controlled lighting, we assess the type and severity of defects to determine the right combination of compounds and pads.
Compound & Polish
Machine polishing in multiple stages: cutting compounds remove defects, finishing polishes refine the surface to a mirror-like clarity.
Protect
Freshly corrected paint needs protection. We recommend wax, sealant, or ceramic coating to lock in the results and prevent future damage.
Paint Correction Pricing
Custom Quoted After Inspection
Every vehicle's paint is different. A black sedan with heavy swirl marks is a fundamentally different job than a white truck with light oxidation. We don't offer one-size-fits-all pricing because the work isn't one-size-fits-all.
After inspecting your vehicle's paint under controlled lighting, we'll provide an honest quote based on:
- Vehicle size (compact, sedan, SUV, truck)
- Paint condition and defect severity
- Number of correction stages required
- Type of protection you want applied after
There's no charge for the inspection, and no obligation. We'll show you the defects, explain what correction can and can't fix, and give you a clear price before any work begins.
What's Included in Every Quote
- Full exterior hand wash and decontamination
- Clay bar treatment
- Paint thickness measurement
- Multi-stage machine polishing
- Panel-by-panel inspection under correction lighting
- Post-correction protection recommendation
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between polishing and paint correction?
Polishing is a single-step process that enhances gloss and removes very light marring. Paint correction is a multi-step process that uses progressively finer compounds and pads to remove deeper defects: swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and etching. Think of polishing as the final step of correction; correction is the full process that actually fixes problems rather than masking them.
How long does paint correction last?
Paint correction permanently removes defects. Once a swirl mark is polished out, it's gone for good. However, your vehicle will accumulate new defects over time from washing, driving, and environmental exposure. That's why protection after correction is critical. Wax, sealant, or ceramic coating creates a sacrificial barrier that takes the abuse instead of your clear coat. With proper maintenance and protection, corrected paint can look excellent for years.
Can all scratches be removed?
No. Paint correction works on clear coat defects, meaning scratches and damage that sit within the clear coat layer. If a scratch has gone through the clear coat into the base color or primer, it can't be polished out. We'll identify these during inspection and give you an honest assessment of what's correctable. In most cases, 80–95% of visible defects can be eliminated or significantly reduced.
Should I get ceramic coating after paint correction?
If you're investing in paint correction, protecting that investment with a durable coating makes sense. Wax lasts weeks. Sealant lasts months. A quality ceramic coating lasts years and provides superior protection against UV, chemical etching, and contamination. We can discuss protection options during your inspection and include the best option in your quote.
Is paint correction safe for my vehicle?
Yes, when done correctly. We measure paint thickness before beginning to ensure there's sufficient clear coat to work with safely. We use the least aggressive approach that will achieve the desired result. If a lighter polish will do the job, we won't use a heavy compound. This is skilled, technical work, which is why it should always be done by a professional rather than attempted with consumer products from an auto parts store.
